About Pit & Tap

Smoked Meats β€’ Cold Drinks Serving up true Texas style BBQ smoked in one of the few Oyler pits in the midwest, this is not your average BBQ joint. In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Wilmette; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

I absolutely love the Pit and Tap barbecue restaurant in Wilmette. We were here to grab a quick dinner before jumping on the train to go to ravinia. The staff here were welcoming and friendly and of course the food was awesome! We got a smoked meat platter with chicken, pork and beef brisket, and I love that they have various barbecue sauces on the side. We ordered some extra sides including the excellent cornbread, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and elote. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and accommodating and got us our food and drinks quickly so we could zip out to the train. We definitely will be back!

We dined here on July 14th during a 93 degree day with an active air quality alert. For some reason, Pit & Tap elected to keep their large garage-style windows wide pen with no air conditioning or air flow. Because of this, the indoor seating was overheated, hard to breathe in, and swarming with bugs that we had to constantly swat away from our food, drinks, and faces. When you look around and see a bunch of red faces and hair going up into buns, it's a sign no one is comfortable. To make matters worse, we sat down at 5:35pm when the restaurant was nearly empty and were say between two of the only three other occupied tables against the wall. Less than an hour later, at 6:25pm while we are mid-meal, the host came up and said "we have a 14-top coming in, would you mind moving to a different table". Had we been lingering for two hours, I would understand, but we had almost just started eating our main courses. When they moved us (or rather, when we moved ourselves - the host waited until we were standing and grabbing our plates to say 'oh, we can help if you want'), they placed us closer to the open windows making us even hotter. Our server brought over an unsolicited round of drinks

My wife and I decided to finally stop in at Pit & Tap to kick off our Fourth of July weekend, even though we’ve driven past it countless times. What a fantastic decision! It instantly became our new favorite go to spot. The food and drinks were outstanding....fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. But what truly made the night unforgettable was the incredible staff and manager. From the moment we walked in, they were warm, attentive, and genuinely fun to be around. They kept the energy high, made great recommendations, and turned a simple bite to eat into an absolute blast. We ended up staying much longer than planned, enjoying round after round of drinks because the service and vibe were just that goodβ€”we honestly didn’t want to leave! If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and go. You will not be disappointed. Pit & Tap has the perfect mix of great food, drinks, and top tier hospitality. It’s officially our new weekend hangout! Can’t wait to go back. Thank you to the amazing team for making our night so special!

This is a wonderful restaurant/ bar in Wilmette. It's BBQ themed. I got the full slab rib dinner with beans, coleslaw, and pickles. The beans and pickles have a nice spice to them. It's not mild, but not hot. It's just enough to put pressure on your tongue. The ribs fell off the bone and the provided house sauce compliments the meat. Everything in this restaurant has a crescendo of taste. The initial flavor punches you in the mouth, then the flavor changes as you chew, then leaves a good aftertaste. I am more than impressed by the food, the staff, the ambiance, and the people I met. Linn and her sister Glenda were really fun to talk to. Both grew up in Wilmette and have the energy and youthfulness of 38 year old women. Must be something in the water.

This was the best smokehouse I've been to in a long time... If not ever. They nail it on multiple levels. Service? Amazing. They paid attention to their guests without being overbearing. Food? Best flavors I've experienced. The brisket, chicken, and ribs were excellent. They took great care of my daughter who's in a wheelchair and paid attention to her.
